My
love affair with creating jewelry began in 1996, when as a hobby,
I started taking classes at an art center in Atlanta. A year later,
I enrolled in the art department at Georgia State University,
where I spent three years becoming totally addicted to art in
general and jewelry design in particular. That addiction did not
fade when my husband and I moved to the beautiful western North
Carolina mountains in 2001.
My
current work combines old, unused Bakelite stock with antiqued
sterling silver and/or gold, creating what I call "contemporary
heirlooms". The designs are new and original, but the vintage
Bakelite, together with the antiqued sterling adds a touch of
nostalgia. See examples of my latest Bakelite and non-Bakelite
pieces in the Gallery under new work.
